Alliance for Housing Progress is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing access to stable, high-quality, and affordable housing as a pathway to stronger communities and greater economic opportunity.
Founded in 2019 in Chicago, Illinois, our organization began as Black Coalition for Housing, formed by housing professionals, community leaders, and advocates seeking to address persistent gaps in access to homeownership, development opportunities, and housing stability. From day one, our work focused on practical solutions—supporting emerging developers, expanding education and awareness, and advocating for more equitable housing systems.
In 2022, we expanded our work to Memphis, Tennessee, where we partnered with local stakeholders to build capacity and pilot new models that respond directly to community needs. These efforts helped catalyze new investments and strengthened our commitment to long-term, place-based strategies.
As our programs grew and our partnerships deepened, we adopted a new name—Alliance for Housing Progress—in 2025 to better reflect our evolving mission and national outlook. Our new identity embraces inclusive collaboration, innovation, and a focus on scalable, sustainable solutions to housing challenges.
Today, Alliance for Housing Progress continues to lead with integrity, data-informed strategy, and a shared belief that housing is foundational—not just to where people live, but to how they thrive. We remain committed to supporting the people and policies that make meaningful progress possible.
